Savings Accounts for the Under 18s
There are two types of savings accounts for the under 18s - the First Saver and the Child Trust Fund. A growing number of schools across the city offer Leeds City Credit Union collection points so why not ask if you can open your savings accounts through them?
The dividends on the accounts below are subject to surplus and may change at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
First Saver Account
This account is great to teach youngsters the importance of saving and financial information. It is also good for parents, grandparents etc who want to start saving for the child. Key features of this account are:
- FREE gifts
- Instant access
- Unlimited withdrawals
- Return of 0.5% p.a. paid annually
Please note that in all applications the child’s birth certificate is required. In addition the Trustee of the account is also required to provide full ID documents. However, if the trustee has recently become a member of LCCU this requirement may be waived.

Child Trust Funds
These are the government regulated savings accounts which are designed to provide a nest-egg for youngsters when they reach the age of 18. The official green vouchers are sent through the post to parents when the child is registered to receive Child Benefit. The vouchers are only available to children living in the UK who were born on or after 1st September 2002. Key features of this account are:
- Cash savings account
- Government initiative
- Return of 1% p.a, paid annually
- Annual statements

Leeds City Credit Union are offering CASH ONLY CHILD TRUST FUND ACCOUNTS......download the form for further information or to apply. We also offer stakeholder CTFs through our partnership with Engage Mutual Assurance. For more information about these or for an application pack please contact our office.
Because Credit Unions have a ’Common Bond’ only people who live or work in the Leeds Metropolitan Area are eligible for membership. This also apply to Child Trust Funds - The child or the registered contact must satisfy this condition.
To open a Child Trust Fund account simply download the application form and bring/send it in to us with the original green voucher. We can also accept transfers from other providers. For more information about this please contact us on (0113) 214 5252.
