Setting Up

"Establishing a Local Development Committee"

Local development committees take responsibility for the local development of the delivery of credit unions services in their particular local area.

Local committees must comprise at least 6 people from the community and the committee needs to establish the need for credit union services locally. This can be achieved by:

  • Identifying how many residents are in the area
  • Identifying community groups and services in the area
  • Identifying employers in the area
  • Consultation meetings with residents, groups and employers
  • Getting people to pledge to join the credit union
  • Identify local resources that the credit union could access and utilise
