Local development committees take responsibility for the local development of the delivery of credit unions services in their particular local area.
Local committees must comprise at least 6 people from the community and the committee needs to establish the need for credit union services locally. This can be achieved by:
- Identifying how many residents are in the area
- Identifying community groups and services in the area
- Identifying employers in the area
- Consultation meetings with residents, groups and employers
- Getting people to pledge to join the credit union
- Identify local resources that the credit union could access and utilise
